The club currently has a project running with the Australian Sports Foundation surrounding water security. Members are encouraged to contribute via the ASF website.
The current Strategic Plan for the Flinders Golf Club sets out our key objectives for the period 2016 to 2021 and identifies the major focus areas and actions to achieve these objectives.
One of the key components of the club’s Strategic plan is water security. In short, the club intends to ensure water security plans are in place to deal with impact of climate change and to achieve our course improvement goals.
Over the last few months the Club has upgraded the Kings St pumping station to improve the efficiency and overall productivity of this water harvesting facility. Your committee has also been working in conjunction with the local council & water authorities in assessing the Club’s ability to access the new drainage works that they are undertaking in the Cove Lane area of Flinders and pump this water to the Club.
This would be similar in approach to the Kings St project. The assessment will determine the volume of additional water that this project would bring to the Club in an average rainfall year. The assessment will also include a preliminary indication of costs, timing and the support that we may be able to access from government and semi government utilities.
In addition to this work the Committee in conjunction with the Course Superintendent is working on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the water distribution and irrigation system that transfers water from our lower dam to all parts of the course with regular upgrades to sprinklers, pumps, pumping stations and pipework around the course.
The next step in this work is an upgrade to the software system that manages the water distribution system. The new software will enable us to implement variable speed pumping throughout the course. This will improve efficiency as the current set up has only a ‘on or off’ setting.
In the long run the improved software will also be beneficial when it comes to reducing costs of power and repairs and maintenance throughout the year.
Water availability and distribution is a vital component of the long term strategy for the Club
