Presidents Trophy Final

Published on 6th August 2017 in Golf News

A month or so after both pairs had convincing wins in their respective semi finals, Saturday 5th August saw the much anticipated Final of the Men’s Presidents Trophy.   Pleasingly, two new pairs found their way into the final of the competition – Club Captain Dean Burrows & previous three time winner of this event, Bob Lovelace, coming up against two of our Club Champions, current Champion Alec Morley & previous Champion Paul West.

The Club Champions jumped to an early lead after winning the 1st, however that was short lived as it was all squared up again at the 3rd.  An impressive putt on the 6th from Paul, followed by another one from Alec on the 7th put Club Champs 1 up on the 8th tee.  However, a great recovery shot to the green from Bob on the 8th and again on the 9th saw the match all square at the turn.

What is best described as a lack in concentration from Dean & Bob on the 10th & 11th saw Alec & Paul out to the biggest lead of the day. Alec and Paul managed their 3rd birdie of the day on the 15th, it took them to the 16th tee 2 up. From there, consistent golf was enough to see it out, Alec dropped a par putt from 5 feet to win the hole, and the match 3/2.

Congratulations Alec and Paul, the Presidents Trophy Finalists 2017 and to all those pairings entering this years competition. For the enjoyment of those attending at next years Presentation night Paul, not Alec will be doing the acceptance speech!
