Captains Trophy Final

Published on 28th October 2017 in Golf News

A magnificent Spring day today, setting the scene for what was about to be a great match for the Captains Trophy Final.

Our two finalists, Colin Slogget & Ewan McCall showed some early nerves, however Colin showed a sign of things to come early, dropping a 25 footer on the fourth to square the hole, and keep his two hole lead.  From there, it was clear the match was going to be decided on the greens, as we witnessed an exceptional display of putting from both players.  On more than one occasion, Colin dropped a long put to heap the pressure on Ewan, only to watch Ewan repeatedly answer the challenge time and time again.

After 9 holes it was all square, with both players having three wins on the front nine.  Back to back birdies on 11 and 12 however saw Ewan sneak ahead.  By the time they reached the 16 tee it was all square again, and after trading wins on 16 and 17, we stood on the 18th tee all square again.

With Ewan on the front edge in 2, and Colin on the back edge for four, it appeared all over – but when Ewan’s first put fell 10 feet short, and Colin knocked his in, the pressure was on.  In front of a rowdy balcony full of members, Ewan calmly stroked in the par put,  for the win.  Congratulations to Ewan on his first major event at The Flinders Golf Glub, and also congratulations to Colin for putting on a great final.

Below is the winning put, and some other images of the day.
