On Friday 20th October a jubilant Flinders team of 12 golfers was victorious in winning the grand final of the coveted PGV trophy event, the Midweek Cup,

This is the first time that the Flinders GC has won the Cup since the event was first played in 1998.

To reach the grand final, we had to first play a qualifying round in which 9 teams played for points at three different venues – Mornington, Rosebud and Flinders.  Each team had 4 players at each venue and the formats were 4BBB Stableford, 2 Man Ambrose and Canadian Foursomes.  The top four leading teams then qualified for the finals.

The top four teams in order were Cardinia Beaconhills (234 pts), Flinders (225 pts), Mornington (224 pts) and The Dunes (220 pts).

For the semi-finals, 1 vs 4 and 2vs 3, so we were to play last year’s winner, Mornington, at Rosebud CC (South course)

The format for the finals was 2 pairs play 4BBB, 2 pairs play Canadian Foursomes and 3 Individual Matchplay – 7 matches.

We defeated Mornington 4 matches to 3 and then qualified for the Grand Final to play the other semi-final winner Cardinia Beaconhills, again at Rosebud CC (South).

On Friday 20th October history was made – we won the grand final convincingly by 6 matches to one.

The final was played with great spirit and sportsmanship – a credit to all players on both teams.
