Course Update – Green Dusting

Published on 30th April 2018 in Course News, Local and Member News, Local News

The greens have received a light dusting of sand this morning. Lightly dusting greens is critical in diluting thatch as it accumulates.

Thatch is the intermingled layer of living and dead grass stems, roots and other organic material that is found between the soil surface and the leaf blades. Although some thatch is desirable, excessive thatch levels leads to increased surface moisture retention, softer putting surfaces that are prone to pitch marking, slower putting surfaces, increased disease and insect activity and root decline.
