April 21 Update: Practice Fairway Works

Published on 20th April 2018 in Course News, Local News, Members News

Members will be pleased to see the practice fairway works have been completed.  Despite the initial expectation that the range would be closed for approximately three weeks, we are pleased to announce that the works are completed, and the practice fairway is open again as of today.
Capping off a very busy week on course here, there were over 500 meters of trenching dug, with agi drain installed.  The trenches were then back filled with screenings and washed sand.

The pictures below tell the story.

Members will no doubt recall the closure of the practice fairway last winter, in particular how damp it was.

Steps were taken then to remedy the situation, which included the instillation of the two permanent mats at the Western end of the range.  Once our nets were refurbished, it was decided to retain the mats from the old nets, and put them to use on the practice fairway.  Notwithstanding that improvement, there was still a need to close the range during winter due to the wet conditions combined with the dormant couch fairway.  This was done to protect the surface, and aid the recovery during Spring.

It has been decided to undertake some drainage works on the practice fairway in an effort to negate the need to close the range in the future.  Colin and his team will commence works on this project on Monday April 9th, which will see the range closed for approximately three weeks.  Throughout this time the nets behind the pro shop will be available to warm up.

Members understanding during this time is appreciated.
