The Women’s Pennant Team, The Flinders Red Caps, had a resounding and exciting 6&1 win against Rosebud 1, in the Division 2 Playoff.
The scoreline does not indicate the persistence and class shown by this team.
Heather Cameron 6&4 and Sue Cutten 9&7 were outstanding.
Mary Hosking 5&3 and Angela Marshall 4&2 were both behind early and shone through with great wins.
Kate Fletcher, quietly steady all day clinched her win on the 18th , 1up.
Sue Gilbert, three down with five to go and against the odds, won on the 19th hole.
Karen Waterson, after a shaky start and being three down early on, clawed her way back to eventually lose on the 17th hole.
Caddies on the day played a valuable part in this result. Well done, Joan Lawson, Soontharee Wongsanchai, Anne Marie Dyer, John Montgomery, Mags Murphy, Peta Campbell and Joc McLeish.
Especially pleasing and encouraging, was the presence of the gallery to support the team. Much appreciation from the players to FGC President Ross Taylor, Captain Dean Burrows, Helen Higginson, Jill Phillips, Sue Wilson, Val Trotter and Lois McVitty.
The Red Caps are looking forward to the challenge of Division 1 next year.
