Vale Notice: Bob Bright

Published on 7th January 2019 in Local News, Past News Story

It is with sadness we inform members of the passing of Life Member Bob Bright.

He initially joined our club in 1953 for a period of 4 years. After a sabbatical of some years he rejoined in 1992.

After rejoining The Flinders Golf Club in 1992 Bob was elected to the General Committee in 1994. In 1995 he was elected Vice Captain of the club and then from 1998 – 2002 was elected Captain for 5 years. Like his time at Carrington Park he was a regular pennant player and was both Pennant Captain and Manager for many years. Bob has served on the Greens and Match Committees for many years and his knowledge of golf related issues, be they administration, rules, course management or design, whatever, has been invaluable. His involvement in numerous other roles has made a significant contribution to our club. He formed the Dads Army group of volunteer helpers and was co-ordinator for over 12 years. Again the work and contribution from this group under Bob’s guidance has been invaluable.

Bob was a Flinders Golf Club delegate to the PDGA for many years and his valued involvement with this governing body saw golf flourish on the Peninsula. He was elected President of the group in 2007 and held the role until his retirement in 2010. Such was the high regard for his contribution to golf in the whole Mornington Peninsula District he was made a Life Member of the PDGA in 2010, and a Life Member of the Flinders Golf Club in 2011.   Bob for many years was a stalwart of the volunteer marshals at the PGA Professional Tournaments and was held in high regard by the touring professionals.

During his golfing career Bob won six hole in one trophies, five of them at Flinders.

Bob also played football for the Rosebud club and was for many years a prominent player for the Rosebud Cricket Club where he also earned a Life Membership.

Bob – Truly a talented sportsman with golf taking precedence in the later years, a great man who was always willing to help when it was needed.

A memorial service will be held at the Flinders Golf Club on Wednesday January 9, commencing at 12.30pm.

We extend our deepest sympathy and thoughts to Bob’s family during this difficult time.
