Winneke Stableford Challenge

More than 100 members enjoyed a day of golf and lunch today in memory of former Club Patron John Winneke on Saturday May 11th.

There was a bit of rain about, but that didn’t deter the golfers, and in trying conditions our winners were David Osmond with 39 points in the Men’s event, and Judy Rex with 34 points in the Women’s event.  Congratulations to you both, as well as our two runners up Mike Callander on 37 points and Nancy Findlay on 32 points.

A lovely carvery lunch was served in the clubhouse after golf, where we were treated to some fine speeches from some of John’s closest.  Former Captain, Graham Scoffern spoke of John’s association with the Flinders Golf Club, and his time as Club Patron.  Close friends,  Stephen Charles and Tim Wood talked in detail about his time in the legal fraternity, discussed his Navy Days.

At the conclusion of the lunch Sue Winneke spoke of John’s love of the club, and read a note that John had written four years ago which spoke of his time at Flinders, and his desire to bequeath the club fifty thousand dollars.  A simply amazing gesture.

For those interested, a copy of Stephen’s eulogy from John’s service at Scots Church on Friday 12 April 2019 can be found HERE

It was a fantastic day for all who attended.
