Members Coronavirus Update: March 23rd 2020

Dear Members,

The Federal and State Government on Sunday night 22nd March announced a shutdown of the of the hospitality industry at midday on 23rd March unless they were able to conduct takeaway operations. As the Club is unable to operate a viable takeaway food or beverage service, we have decided to close the kitchen and bar. Regrettably, the hospitality staff will be asked to stand down, without pay, as from today, after taking all accrued leave entitlements. The General Committee was most reluctant to take this step but had no choice, in all the circumstances.  We will be considering all options to support staff through this difficult period.

Although there are increasing numbers of outbreaks of the disease, we can assure you there has been no instance of any confirmed cases at the club, to date. We have however appointed Judy Rex from the General Committee, to be our Case Manager. It is vitally important that any member, recent visitor or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 informs Judy Rex (judyrex5@gmail.com, mobile 0402 306 188) as soon as possible. Judy will be responsible for;

  • clarifying the date and time the person was last at the Club.
  • the names of their playing partners, and any others with whom they interacted

The Case Manager will remind the member they must stay away from the Club, seek medical advice, and not return to Club until cleared of any potential to infect others.

The Case Manager will contact the individual’s playing partners and others who have had close contact, to advise them to stay away from the Club, to seek medical advice as appropriate, and not return to Club until cleared. The committee has also co-opted Dr Peter Shea to consult to the committee on medical matters as required.

Those Members who are at most risk (the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions) should seriously consider whether they should attend the Club.

We also ask that members and visitors who have recently returned from overseas, whether before or after midnight on 15 March, 2020, stay away from the Club until at least 14 days have expired since they arrived home.

The General Committee is still committed to keeping the course open for as long as it is deemed safe and reasonable to do so. The pro shop and the administrative staff will continue to provide the existing level of service.

In order to minimise the possible spread of the virus from Wednesday 25th March, we will restrict club competitions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to members and one member of their immediate family only.  Social play for visitors will therefore be on the non-club competition days, or outside the closed competition times.

Looking ahead, Golf Australia has asked that we don’t have open competitions. As a result, we have sadly cancelled our popular Easter Tournament, so that the 110th Easter Tournament will now take place in mid-April 2021. The administrative staff will be contacting entrants shortly to organise refunds or credits. In line with the member restrictions above, Easter Friday will be for regular social play with a member only competition on the Saturday.

I was planning to end on a happy note about the physical and mental health benefits of a few wonderful hours of escapism from this new world reality but it’s only going to work if everyone follows these new rules and are serious about the invisible enemy confronting us all. It is going to get worse and we all need to take proper precautions.

Best Regards

Allan Shaw
President
