Engaging With Our Newer Members

For some time now, the Club has been considering how best to engage with our newer members to encourage them to begin playing in competitions.

Many at the club will be aware of the “New to Golf” program in which new members, some who have never played golf before, are encouraged to take coaching lessons with Josh Shaw, and then mentored by volunteers, acting as “buddies”, to play a few holes on our course each week. As a result, we have seen a significant increase in the number of new members joining the club, and some of these players have gone on to obtain a GA handicap.

A number of these newer members will continue to work through the mentoring programs with a view to improving their skills to the point where they are able to consider playing in various events at the club.

All of us will remember how difficult it is to learn to hit the ball with any kind of consistency when we first begin to play golf, and the “New to Golf” players are all working through this phase at different levels.

We would now like to encourage the more experienced golfers at the club to begin to engage with new members who have reached such a degree of skill that they have been able to obtain a GA handicap.

In order to facilitate this, we have put together a list of upcoming team events (see list below) that would suit a mix of newer and more experienced members, and which would therefore give all of us the opportunity to reach out to our new members and encourage them to play in competitions.

The team in the pro-shop have a list of our newer players, along with their contact details, and we would like to encourage all those who are considering playing in any of these events to ask Josh and his team to include one or more of them in your bookings.

We encourage everyone to welcome our newer players in this way.
