As I write,  it is a gorgeous Spring day – warm (ish),  blue sky,  masses of flowers in the garden.  This morning a handsome young King Parrot came and sat on my deck fence to have a chat.  I noticed he had a rakish list to starboard and a closer look confirmed that he had only one foot.  He is obviously being looked after by someone locally because he was expecting me to feed him.  I have to say this encounter has been the highlight of the day so far,  perhaps someone reading this is his carer?

Now that we are back  to competition we are embracing this with a vengeance.  Please read the detail below about the current competitions which we have rescheduled to finish.   We also have to talk about the Christmas Lunch, see below,  and a few other things.

The November Monthly Medal was won by Phillipa Davey with a wonderful nett 65.  Judy Rex was closely behind with 67.  Judy also took the putting honours.  Their form augurs well at this time.

Club Championships

The first round has been and gone – it was a tough day.  The wind was not only strong but seemed to change direction on a whim.  Well done to those who managed and who are ready to go for the second round next Saturday.

This event is our major event of the year.  The winners in B and C grades are our best golfers in these grades. Our very best is, of course,  our Club Champion for 2021.  It seems to me that the Final day of these championships,  Saturday 20th November,  should be celebrated by as many members as possible.  Many members will be playing, but as the leaders will be seeded on this day,  we will all have a chance to wish them well,  to follow a few holes,  and to congratulate the successful ones at the end of the day.  There will be a presentation after the last group has finished their round.  This will be at approx. 2.30 pm.  Lunch will be available until 3.00 pm in the clubhouse and snacks after that.

Silver Spoon Final

This is a GPV event.  We have 2 club level winners to now play off for a final representative of FGC to play in the State Final on Thursday 22nd of November.  They are Deb Cairns and Angela Marshall.

L.J.C. Cup

This is Monday’s 13 hole competition.  In its inaugural  year,  despite lockdowns, we have managed a Summer, an Autumn and a Winter medal winner – Jenny Wansborough,  Isabela Burns and Lou Hogan respectively.   Now….the Spring medal has to be played for and decided over two of the remaining Mondays of November – 15 and 29 Nov.  Please call the pro-shop to make your bookings for these dates.  The 4 medallists will play off in Matchplay format on Monday 6th of December,  the Final will be played on Monday 13th of December.   If the finalists are not familiar with Matchplay there will be help in attendance!

Flinders Cup

The finalists will play a first round on Saturday 27th of November,  a second round on Thursday 2nd of December and the Final round on Saturday 4th of December.   The leaderboard is as follows:  Suzanne Middleton-Smart,  Merran Hastings,  Helen Higginson,  Sue Wilson,  Jane Chidgey,  Sabine Bommer,  Karen Waterson.

The 80 + Trophy

Thursday 9th of December is the last day of the competition for 2021.

Medal of Medallists

On Saturday 4th of December we play the Monthly Medal AND the Medal of Medallists for 2021.  The Putter of Putters will also be decided.  Putts are counted each Monthly Medal Day.

Monthly Medallists for the year  –  Bernadette Piecasz (2),  Katie Rothfield,  Kate Farrar,  Robyn Matthews,  Angela Marshall,  Gen Rawling,  Phillipa Davey.

Putters for the year  –  Sue Gilbert,  Sue Cutten (2),  Kate Farrar,  Robyn Matthews,  Julie Pilling, Deb Cairns and Judy Rex.

Foursomes Matchplay Knockout

We are currently finalizing the Semi-finals and the Final will be played as soon as an appropriate date can be organized before the end of November.

Ann Ford Summer Cup

This will begin on Saturday 4th of December (along with the Monthly Medal,  the Medal of Medallists,  Putter of Putters and the Final of the Flinders Cup).  This trophy was donated by Ann’s husband following her untimely death in a car accident on her way to golf.  The winner is the best aggregate nett score of 3 designated Stroke rounds in December, January and February.

GPV – 2021 District A, B & C Championships  –  to be played on Sunday 19th of November.  Please see detail on the board in the locker room and organize your entry if you are interested.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH  –  Wednesday 1st of December

This is a double celebration  –  to have lunch together, in the Diningroom,  as members of FGC and also to celebrate Christmas.  It sounds like a bit of a “pie in the sky” but it will really happen this time.  Let’s make the most of it,  a flyer will be available in the next few days with booking detail.  Our chef, Nick, has designed the menu,  the Diningroom is booked.

Anglicare

Again this year we have been asked if we could donate toys and other gifts for families in need at Christmas.  It seems that teenage presents are sorely needed and one suggestion is for vouchers e.g. JB Hi-FI,  Priceline ……value between $20-$50.  Gifts for all other age groups are needed also.  I am told they balance the value of the gifts to the families as best they can.

There will be boxes in the locker room from this weekend and we need to deliver to Anglicare by 13th of December2021.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Club, at least at the Christmas Lunch,  if not before.  Best wishes to all who have Finals in the next few weeks.

Kind regards,

Sue Wilson
Women’s Captain.
