Welcome from our New Women’s Captain!

Published on 6th December 2021 in Local and Member News, Local News, Members News, Social News

It is with great enthusiasm that I be undertaking the role of Women’s Captain at Flinders Golf Club.

Flinders is a special place for me and I’m genuinely excited to work with the members and staff to enable the club to reach its full potential.

Why I applied for the position?

  • I am tragically passionate about golf (I have golf magazines next to my bed)
  • I love golf rules and that I learn a new one frequently
  • I love watching and seeing the pride on a players face when she hits an “amazing” shot
  • I love the friendships made from golf
  • I love watching new golfers grow in confidence in their game
  • I want to represent you and your ideas for the club

Saturday 4th December was the Medal of Medalist and the Putting Cup play off.  The first round of Ann Ford Summer Cup and Monthly Medal.

Robyn Matthews has continued her excellent form since taking out the recent B Grade Championship, winning the Medal of Medalist and the Putting Cup.

Suzanne Smart was our December monthly Medalist with an excellent nett 68 score.

Robyn and Suzanne both worthy winners in true Flinders style.

We had 27 women complete our first round of Ann Ford.  Suzanne is leading the field with 68, but is followed closely by Karen Waterson 69, Robyn Matthews and Mary Hosking 70.  The full list is posted on the women’s locker room noticeboard.

The weather conditions: Perfect. Winds of 35 knots, showers, sun, clouds and many changes of clothes!

I was able to get some feedback at the presentation regarding the idea to “lock in” a permanent booking time slot 9 am – 11 am on the first Saturday for us to play our game of Stroke/Monthly Medal or Par then a catch up in the clubhouse as a group. This will start January 15th 2022.

A friendly reminder that we are still collecting gifts for Anglicare, there is a gift drop box in the women’s locker rooms, we will be accepting gifts up until the 13th of December.

I wish you, my golf buddies, your family, and friends a wonderful Christmas and safe New Year.

May 2022 will be a wonderful year for us all at Flinders Golf Club

Sincerely,

Gen Rawling
Women’s Captain
