<\/p>\nA great day for Flinders Golf Bowls Club.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In perfect bowling weather, on a fast excellent green at Rosebud Country Club, we decisively defeated Rye (who had finished as the minor Premiers). There were some tense moments in the mid section, but as we went into the 18th end with both rinks ahead by a good margin,\u00a0it was already looking good for the final finish scoreline of 39 to 26.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We hosted Mt Martha in Round 14, the last of the home and away season.\u00a0 Despite\u00a0leading early on, we ended up losing by the narrowest of margins, 38-39.<\/p>\n
Despite this we were able to hang on to second place on the ladder, and will play Mt Martha again, this time at their home, in a semi final on\u00a0Tuesday March 3rd.\u00a0 Good luck!<\/p>\n

In the last round of the Saturday competition we hosted Rosebud Country Club, who defeated us last year in the grand final.\u00a0 RCC is a very big club, and for us to be competitive against clubs like them which are able to cleverly manage their much larger pool of players to ensure their strongest possible teams are available at the pointy end of the season is excellent.<\/p>\n
Sadly, they were too strong for us in beautiful weather last Saturday and we went down 74-44.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Had we been able to win just one rink we would have had enough points to earn a spot in the finals.\u00a0 As it is, we missed out by just one point as Sorrento moved up into fourth.\u00a0 Very disappointing.\u00a0 \u00a0We look forward to next year…<\/p>\n

A beautiful day – we travelled to Rye and had a very exciting close game.\u00a0 Finally, we held a narrow lead and the result came down to the very last end on the last rink to finish, with Hillis Houston as skip.\u00a0 Loss of the end by four points or more would have seen us lose the day.\u00a0 \u00a0Happily and to the relief of all of us, they prevailed.\u00a0 \u00a0A win on the day with final\u00a0total score of 61 to 59.\u00a0 We retain second place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last round next Saturday against top placed Rosebud Country Club.\u00a0 We’d love to finish the season on top of the ladder, as we did last year.\u00a0 Good luck!<\/p>\n

Flinders was comfortably ahead of Somerville at home last Tuesday when the heavens opened. Torrential rain for a good ten minutes flooded the green completely.\u00a0 Not only that, but a blocked stormwater drain at the front of the clubhouse backed up. Only through judicious use of a straw broom wielded by one of our opponents were we able to avert serious inundation of the clubhouse. Repairs to the drain are now under way.<\/p>\n

The game was abandoned, as were many others across the peninsula. As we had not completed the required 30 ends prior to play ending, no points were allocated.\u00a0 Ladder positions unchanged.<\/p>\n
Last round\u00a0next Tuesday at home against\u00a0Mt Martha.\u00a0 A win would see us take first place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A home game against Village Glen this week on a damp green.\u00a0 We needed a win against the team directly above us on the ladder, and we succeeded.\u00a0 Thanks to this as results from other greens, we have moved up to second place.\u00a0 Well done all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Next\u00a0week we play away at Rye.<\/p>\n

We played away this week at City of Frankston.\u00a0 Despite some good bowling from\u00a0some members of the team we were unable to adapt to the green and were beaten 48-30.<\/p>\n
Despite this, we retain our second position on the ladder.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Next week we play Somerville at home.<\/p>\n

A home game against Balnarring this week.\u00a0 We were well beaten by a team with some very strong players.\u00a0 Final score was 75 to 46.<\/p>\n
The ladder remains very tight from second place down.<\/p>\n
Next Saturday is at home against Village Glen.<\/p>\n

A pleasing win against Blue Hills, who travelled down from Cranbourne West to play us at our home ground.\u00a0 Score was 44 to 31.<\/p>\n
This has put\u00a0us up into second place, only two points behind ladder leaders Mt Martha.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Next game is away against City of Frankston.<\/p>\n

An excellent home win against Dromana, which is a very strong team.\u00a0 Final score 78 to 46, with two rinks won and one halved. We remain in fourth place with second, third and fourth all very close.\u00a0 Only four rounds to go, with three of these\u00a0 to be played at home.\u00a0 Our beautiful new green is suiting us well.<\/p>\n

Again, our season started slowly in the midweek (Tuesday) competition due to a run of away games.\u00a0\u00a0 We have had some big wins recently and are delighted to have risen to third.<\/p>\n
Next Tuesday 4th February we play Blue Hills at home.<\/p>\n

As our new green was not ready at the start of the season we not only lacked practice, but were forced to play a large number of early scheduled home games away.\u00a0 These swaps now mean we have a run of home games, which is to our advantage.\u00a0 After a slow start we are currently sitting in a very creditable fourth place on the ladder, with some good recent wins.\u00a0 This Saturday 1st February we play Dromana at home.<\/p>\n
