Sedgley & Sons Pinot Noir

The grapes grow at our two acre vineyard at “Creadon Farm” 181 Coolart Road Hastings, Mornington Peninsula. The wine is an exclusive single vineyard cool climate pinot noir and feature an elegant balance of sunshine (fruit) and tannin.

Rick McIntyre of Moorooduc Estate is the winemaker and the harvest fills ten French oak barrels for 10 to 11 months. 2016 has a typical pinot nose, and is perfectly balanced to a lasting finish. While young it is best decanted before tasting. There are complex savours of cherry, strawberry, ginger, black olive and cloves, with a hint of oak lifting to a delicious pepper.

2015 was the first harvest of the Sedgley & Sons. Previously the grapes were sold as part of Stonier’s Pinot Noir.

An earlier owner of Creadon Farm made his own wine from the grapes, winning medals at the Eltham wine show in 2006 and 2007!

The vines are 19 years old.

Initially irrigated they have now found their own aquifers and are self-sufficient, producing about 1.5 tons per acre

Sedgley & Sons Quince Paste

The quinces and lemons are picked from local trees at “Creadon Farm” Coolart Road Hastings and contain Smyrna and Champion Quince varieties. The label originates from Sedgley & Sons butcher’s shop in Gawler South Australia in the 1890s.

The paste is made from quinces, raw sugar and lemon juice and is poured hot into the jars, creating a vacuum which gives it long life if kept in a cool place. No need to refrigerate.

Its strong flavour is delicious with soft blue and other cheeses and also excellent in sauces to go with pork and other dishes as a substitute to an apple sauce.
