Men’s Club Championships Wrap Up
Published on 18th November 2017 in Golf NewsThe Men’s Club Championships has been run and won for anther year, and congratulations go to not only our three grade winners, but all of our members who competed. And a special thanks to those spectators who were our there this afternoon to see some very good golf.
It must be said, course superintendent Colin Morrison and his team have the course in fantastic condition, which is something that the players really appreciated.
In A Grade, the golf was of particularly high quality today, with our top four finishers all recording round three scores of 74 or better. Congratulations to our winner, Simon Payne, who had three consistent rounds in the low 70s, including a fine 71 today, to give him a three round total of 218. This is Simon’s first Club Championship after a couple of runner up finishes in previous years. Runner up Rob Curic also played well today shooting 72 to finish on 225.
The B Grade championship was nail biting stuff, with a playoff required to find us a result. When it was all said and done after three rounds, Alan Robinson & Clive Batrouney were tied on up on 255 after solid rounds of 82 and 83 respectively today. So, they went to a 55th hole to decide the winner. Alan played a remarkable approach from the left rough, over the bunker to the back left pin, which left him two puts for a safe par, and when Clive was unable to get up and down from the front of the green it was all over. Congratulations to our B Grade champion Alan Robinson.
The C Grade event was a tight affair with 6 players within 5 shots of the winner. Congratulations to Will Hamilton, our newest C Grade Champion. Will played well today to record 35 points, capping off a consistent three weeks to reach 105 for the three rounds. This was enough to pip Harry Tiesdell-Smith by one point.
