2018 Club Championships
Published on 19th November 2018 in Local NewsOur 2018 Club Championships saw the return of our Women’s Championships to November, to be played alongside the Men’s event.
This year we had near capacity fields for all 3 rounds. There was great atmosphere, awareness and overall participation around the Club. Congratulations to all Members who competed and all those who participated in the running of this years event.
Our 2018 Club Champion is Andrew Wright. Andrew literally lead from start to finish, as he was in the first group in the first round. In what was a tight final round, Our Club Champion from 2015, Rob Curic closed the gap to one shot a few times but Andrew slipped away in the last six holes, and prevailled by 4 shots. A second runner up finish in a row for Rob. There was some excellent scoring from our final group, which saw a 72 from Andrew, a 73 from Rob and a pair of 75s from Simon Payne and Neil Cavenagh in a classy display of golf.
Our 2018 Women’s Champion is Sue Cutten. Sue is no stranger to Championships as you will see her name on the board on several occasions. Despite being a few back after the first round, Sue produced two solid rounds to salute from our 2016 Women’s Champion and Women’s Captain Karen Waterson. Sue’s three round total of 255 was eight clear of Karen, with Mary Hosking in thrid place. This is Sue’s fifth championship since 2011.

B Grade Championships: Jason Butler, our leader after round one played a steady final round to prevail over Ross Matthews and win B Grade by six shots, with Keith Colston a further two shots back. Merran Hastings held a handsome lead going into the final round and played steady golf to win B Grade from Anne Maree Dyer by eight shots, with Sue Middleton-Smart a further four back.

C Grade Champions: Roger Velik was back in seventh place at the start of the third round produced a great final round 37 to win C Grade by one point from Ken Waterson, with a fast finishing Harry Tiesdell-Smith in third. A lazy 44 points from Harry was the best score of the day. There was another come from behind story in the Women’s C Grade event, with Jenny Batrouney coming from four back at the start of the day. A great final round 34 points was enough to win C Grade, five points clear of Doreen Lyon, with Fiona Reed rounding out the top three.
