Handicapping of Scores

Published on 21st July 2020 in Past News Story

Dear Members,

As you are no doubt aware, Golf Australia advised recently that ‘Club Competitions must not be conducted, but handicapping of scores through non-contact means is allowed’

Our Golf Committee have met at length to discuss this and conferred the only legitimate way for this to occur is through using the Mi-Score App.

For handicapping of scores to count, the following would need to occur,

-The Club would need to register with Mi-Score (free until the end of September 2020 and then an annual subscription applies)

-The Club would need to register a handicap day, ie; a Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday

-Members wanting to record a score electronically need a smart phone and to download the App

-Members using the App will need to play with another using the App to act as marker for verification

Our Golf Committee is concerned with a few areas within,

-Members not doing the smart phone App need to opt out each day or they will receive an NSNA on their handicap history

-We are concerned the demographics of our membership may not all have access to smart phones and App’s

-All phones need to be charged to complete a round, the App does use a high amount of battery, if the phone dies then scores cannot be recorded

-Phone reception is poor across areas of our course which can make scoring difficult at times

-Two players in the group must use the App which makes it difficult when playing in pairs

-We would prefer at all times our course to be device free to afford the time to enjoy the camaraderie and tranquil surroundings of our spectacular course.

Based on the above we have agreed not to hold handicapping of scores at Flinders over the coming weeks, looking forward to a return to our regular competition at the end of the current lockdown period.

We strongly urge all Members to enjoy the social aspect of our game whilst we at least continue to play golf during these turbulent times. There are many a way you can mix up your golf with your partner from regular stroke rounds, playing from different teeing grounds, matchplay and numerous other type of golf that will keep you and your partner entertained for 18 holes.

Theres no science to this, we are all trying our best to get through the current world pandemic.

I appreciate all your support and understanding whilst at times you may feel otherwise.

Kind Regards,
Dean Burrows
Captain
