Red Caps Complete a Thrilling Season

Published on 9th April 2021 in Golf News

Needing to have a win on the final day of Pennant, the Red Caps continued their good form and defeated Cardinia Beaconhills 6/1.
Any outside chance for second place and a finals playoff, was thwarted by Rosebud who also won well and will meet Sorrento in the final.
This win secured third place on the ladder for the best finish FGC Womens Pennant team has had for a long time.

Congratulations to the players who achieved this result, Captain Angela Marshall, Heather Cameron, Jesika Clark, Sue Cutten, Janet Doig, Kate Fletcher, Mary Hosking, Sandy Miller, Judy Rex and Karen Waterson.

Our band of very capable caddies was a great support and their efforts appreciated, as was the support from the FGC Committee.

Well done Red Caps!

The Pennant team and their caddies celebrated their season in the clubhouse on Thursday night.

Round 6

Sorrento and Rosebud were playing for top position while Flinders, Mornington and The National were all on three wins, but Flinders were half a game clear in third position.

Janet Doig was recalled to the team after Mary Hosking was ‘crook’ and withdrew.    Janet 3/2 had a good win and a determined Karen Waterson won 3/2.  Sue Cutten, 5/4 and Jesika Clark 2/1 showed their class once again.

Heather Cameron kept her opponent honest, Angela went to the seventeenth and Kate Fletcher just missed on the eighteenth. An excellent team performance.

Flinders 4  def  Mornington  3

The season could now end up with an unexpected team playing against Sorrento in the final.  Three teams, Rosebud (29 wins)  The National (25 wins) and Flinders (24 wins) have each won four matches.

The final round on Thursday 8 April looks interesting:

Sorrento v The National
Rosebud v The Dunes
Flinders v Cardinia Beaconhills

Just Do It – Red Caps!!

Round 5

Round 5 was played on The National’s Gunnamatta course against Rosebud, currently second on the ladder. This was a challenge for our team, Jesika Clark, Sue Cutten, Heather Cameron, Kate Fletcher, Mary Hosking, Angela Marshall and Karen Waterson. However, Flinders players were in contention for most of the day with wins from Jesika 2 Up and Angela 4/3 and a Sue squared her match. Kate Fletcher just missed a win on the eighteenth. Flinders remain third on the ladder, with Mornington and The National on equal points but ahead of them only by half a match and two matches won. Next week will present another exciting prospect against Mornington at Sorrento.

Go Red Caps!!

Round 4

Golfing with wildlife was a feature this week for the Flinders Pennant Team of Jesika Clark, Sue Cutten, Kate Fletcher, Mary Hosking, Angela Marshall, Karen Waterson and Sandy Miller at Cardinia Beaconhills.

Flinders put in a very strong performance defeating The Dunes at Cardinia Beaconhills, 6/1. A very good result for the Red Caps.

Flinders are third on the ladder behind Sorrento and Rosebud and will face Rosebud at The National’s Gunnamatta course on Thursday 19th March.

Round 3

Playing at home in familiar nasty, strong winds, Flinders Womens Pennant team put up an impressive performance against the formidable National team which included one player off +1.2.

Our winners were Angela Marshall 1Up, Sandy Miller 2 Up, Kate Fletcher 4/3 and Karen Waterson 5/3 with Mary Hosking squaring her match.
Being at home, a small gallery supported the team and enjoyed watching the outcome unfold. It was much appreciated, as was the work of the ground staff, kitchen staff and particularly Kim Little in administration who presented Flinders Golf Club extremely well. Thank you and well done Red Caps!

Round 2

Mary Hosking, Janet Doig, Kate Fletcher, Sue Cutten, Angela Marshall, Heather Cameron and Jesika Clark had their work cut out at The Dunes against Sorrento. It was a nail-biter to the end, but Sorrento just got across the line with a 4/3 victory. Wins today came from Jesika 3/2, Sue 2/1 and Heather 3/2. A good effort Red Caps!

Next Friday, 5th March, Flinders Golf Club is Hosting Round 3 and we’d love to see members come out and support the team.
Flinders tees off against The National, from 8.00 – 8.40am.
