David Maxwell Trophy Final & Monthly Medal Winners
Published on 10th April 2021 in Golf NewsWe have been extremely lucky with the weather over the past few months. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case today. We had showers in the morning, sunshine, then extreme winds and some very heavy showers to finish the golfers off for the day.
After three months of elimination matchplay it was down to Simon Bennett & Tony Taylor to try and battle it out against Craig Kibby & John Drake.
John & Craig able to grab an early lead in extremely testing winds by winning hole 2, Simon & Tony able to even the match up on hole 7 and then took the lead winning hole 8. At the turn it was 1up to Simon & Tony.
Between holes 10 and 14 it was back and forth between each team winning & conceding holes. Standing on the 15th tee the match was all square, Simon & Tony winning hole 16 and Craig & John winning hole 17. All square heading down the 18th, 3 of the 4 golfers getting off the tee safely. It came down to John being required to hole a putt for par to win the match, and for him and Craig it was great to watch the ball find the hole to win the match and be crowned the 2021 David Maxwell Champions.
An exceptionally great standard of golf was played by all. Congratulations to Craig & John, well done to Tony & Simon and to all those that entered this years event.
For the April Kay & Burton Monthly Medal it was Robyn Matthews having a great score of 80 and Ken Waterson having a well fought 72. Great scoring in some testing conditions!
