About the Author –

Kate had long dreamt of writing a novel, but as a mother of six, finding the time was a challenge. When her sister offered to hold her to account with a monthly deadline, Kate knew it was now or never.

Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistance was written at kinder pick-up and drop-off, poolside during swimming lessons, in cafes early in the morning and in the library late at night. Filled with endearing, unforgettable characters, Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistance is a warm, funny and relatable story of the highs and lows of friendship and standing up for what is right.

Flinders is excited to host Kate Solly in her debut novel.

About the book –

A heart-warming story of friendship in an imperfect world, Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistance, from debut author Kate Solly, is the perfect binge-worthy read for those warm summer days. Inspired by real movements such as ‘Welcome to Eltham’ and ‘Believe in Bendigo’ (which began in response to protests around the building of a mosque in Bendigo in 2015), this feel-good story takes the high road to celebrate the joys of unexpected friendships and the power of community – even in the face of bigotry. The story follows Meredith, who established the Copeton Crochet Collective (no knitters please) because it would be like having friends, only with her in charge, and because there would be no men. So, it comes as a nasty shock when Luke, the handsome grandson of no-nonsense Edith, decides to stay one evening and learn to crochet. Claire joins the CCC to escape her relentless children. Yasmin joins so that someone might ask her who she likes on MasterChef instead of asking the same five questions about her hijab. Then there is Lottie and Harper, both trying to blend in and hide secrets that they would much prefer stayed wrapped in wool and out of sight. But when plans for a new mosque stir the town of Copeton and Islamophobia bubbles to the surface, the Crochet Collective becomes the Craft Resistance. The motley crew of fibre-arts enthusiasts and mixed-bag of personalities begin to battle racism and bigotry with colour and creativity. But will the fragile threads of community be enough to bind them when more than one member isn’t who they seem?
