Introducing “The Exotics”

Published on 15th February 2024 in Local and Member News

Late last year I issued an expression of interest to members to volunteer to join a group dedicated to the removal of invasive weeds on the course. We had an outstanding response with 24 volunteers. We have split the volunteers into two groups. One group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and works on areas on-course and another group meets on the 2nd Friday of each month and works on off-course areas. We have two nominated team leaders in Rod Otto for the Wednesday group and Mike Gielb for the Friday Group and they have adopted the moniker of “The Exotics” as their aim is the removal of non-indigenous weeds.

The Exotics are supported by Michelle Stacey from Main Ridge Landcare and Mark Arrons from Friends of Flinders Coastline. Michelle and Mark have extensive knowledge in the restoration of native bushland.

This month the Exotics have attacked the two paths that lead off the 13th hole back to the clubhouse and they have made substantial progress. If this type of work sparks your interest, please register with the admin office and Belinda will forward your details.
