Club Presentation Night
Published on 12th February 2019 in Local and Member News, Members NewsOn Saturday Night, more than 110 members and their guests gathered to acknowledge the success of our members in competition throughout the 2018 calendar year.
In addition to that, the night is designed to recognise the contribution from our staff and long serving members who have reached 50 years of service.
The evening is all about celebrating as a group, the history and tradition of this great Club, and Saturday night was no exception.
The night was headlined not only by our winners from the year gone, but also our guest speaker, Roger Langley, pictured left, from the Children First Foundation. Roger spoke to a captivated audience about the work the Children First Foundation do.
For those unaware –
“The Children First Foundation has been facilitating life-changing, sometimes life-saving surgery for children from developing countries since 1999. The Foundation was established through the tireless commitment of like-minded-people who shared our vision. Not only did they ‘feel good’ about our vision, they knew that together we could ‘do good’.
Like us they wanted to create a level playing field and give a helping hand to kids from countries without the necessary resources.”

Introducing Children First Foundation
Aside from the golf presentations, one of the highlights of the night was the recognition of 50 years of membership to two club members.
President Ross Taylor (pictured to the right) spoke to the audience of the memory of Colin Metcalf who sadly passed away in 2018, his 50th year of membership. Colin was a much loved member, and was fondly remembered.
The crowd was reminded of the honour Colin felt in seeing his name on the 50 year honour board, after the club had arranged a video and photos of the inscription to be sent across to him.
Ross then introduced the second member of the class of ’68, Clive Jones (pictured left).
Clive spoke fondly of his time here at Flinders Golf Club, in great detail of the many course changes that he has seen over his time as a member.
Perhaps the highlight of Clive’s memories was the stories of lessons and tips from Bill Darley back in the day, and his interest in the likeness between sweeping and the way the putting stroke should be!
There is probably something in that for all of us.
There were also golf presentations throughout the evening. Once again, congratulations to all of our event winners who were recognised on the evening. These members are listed below.
There was a common theme among those who spoke, all touching in one way or another on the camaraderie of the Club, and the pride that they have in their membership.
