New to Golf Program

Building on the success of the Pathway to Golf program, which has resulted in 36 new members to the Club, we are delighted to launch our New To Golf Program. This six week program, which is complimentary and open to newly joined pathway participants and beginner golfers, aims to introduce the greater complexities of the golf game: namely etiquette, rules, scoring and adding to further opportunity to play the game.

Along with the program, a dedicated New To Golf section has been created on our website within the left hand side tabs or CLICK HERE. This knowledge hub has been designed for beginner golfers based on the GA guidelines of The Basics of Golf. Please take some time to browse through the content, there is a wealth of information here. The “Bogey Golfer” article is particularly fascinating! It is also only right that we thank Gaye Wymond, Lorna Conboy, Carol Tracey and Ros Robertson for all their efforts in putting this program together and also Sue Wilson and Josh Shaw for their efforts in reviewing all the material.

WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE! PLAYING PARTNERS REQUIRED!

The formal 6 week program will be run on Friday afternoons from about 3.30pm. It will begin in the Clubhouse with a 15 minute discussion relating to rules, etiquette or scoring, and then the beginners will go out and play 9 holes with an experienced volunteer, male or female. The volunteer will be able to provide on-course experience of the rules and etiquette, as they come up during the game. To make this program a success, we are calling for members who are willing to play with these beginner golfers. This would create a “pool” of experienced golfers that could be drawn upon when required. We are looking to expand our member golfers support group, as our current “buddies” are already giving an enormous amount of their time with the Pathway to Golf Program.

It is daunting for new members of the Club, who are beginner golfers, to reach out for a playing partner. At the moment, the beginners are playing together on a regular basis because they are not confident to approach experienced golfers. If beginner golfers have the confidence to contact the people on this list, we believe this will accelerate the learning process. For the experienced golfer, this will ultimately lead to greater enjoyment of the game as the beginners move more quickly around the course and hopefully begin to join the Monday 12 Hole Competition, then progress to the main weekday competitions.

In Essence:

  • New members are made to feel welcome and develop a sense of belonging to the Club
  • The best experience a new golfer can have is to play with an experienced golfer!

So if you can still remember your early days of golf and would be happy to play with a beginner golfer, please contact one of the following and your name will be added to the list.
